Introduction
Theatrical Notebook is a platform for exchanging ideas and promoting knowledge about theatre. Thanks to the online platform and the new digital journal, theatre enthusiasts now have the opportunity to explore reviews, interviews, and analyses of performances from around the world. The journal features articles written by renowned theatre professionals.
The starting point for the project
The website for Theatrical Notebook was developed based on conceptual workshops conducted with the journal's editorial team. The goal was to create an online platform that would archive texts from the 1990s and allow for the publication of new content, both in open access and premium formats. From the outset, we knew that the journal would be accompanied by the revival of the printed edition, so the website had to be launched in sync with the release of the paper version of the magazine.
The goals and perspective at the start of the project
- User registration/login for visitors to the website.
- Content available both for free and for a fee.
- Access to paid content should be possible through one-time purchases as well as through subscriptions.
- A system for searching and filtering texts by metadata.
- Newsletter.
- Integration with the Przelewy24 payment gateway.
- The ability to purchase the journal in digital formats - ePub, Mobi, PDF.
- Promotional coupons - the ability to generate coupons.
- Email notifications (order confirmation, account creation information, data change notifications, subscription expiration reminders, etc.).
- Reports - a summary of transactions for a given month.
The Approach
For Theatrical Notebook, we began by designing wireframes and then finalized the design, which was intended to correspond with the cover of the first issue. However, knowing that the covers of individual issues would differ, we initially proposed a solution that allows the editorial team to change the color scheme of the typography and page background. This change requires just a few clicks within the WordPress editing panel.
Another important element was designing the content search system. We developed a fairly advanced mechanism for searching articles by the director's or actor's name, the title of the play, or the city where it was performed. All of this was done to ensure that users who are passionate about the world of theater have easy access to the content that interests them.

The Ability to Purchase the Journal in Digital Formats - ePub, Mobi, PDF
The introduction of digital formats such as ePub, Mobi, and PDF has significantly changed the way readers consume content. Transitioning to digital formats allows access to journals on various devices, such as e-readers, tablets, and smartphones, enhancing their accessibility and reading convenience. Utilizing these formats reduces printing and distribution costs while offering readers greater flexibility in accessing content, regardless of location and time. The MemberPress plugin we selected allows for embedding ZIP, Mobi, ePub, and PDF files in a way that they are only downloaded to the user's device after an online payment is made. These files can be downloaded at any time from the user's account.

Integration with the Przelewy24 Payment Gateway
The integration with the Przelewy24 payment gateway and transaction operator was chosen after consulting with the accounting department and assessing the needs of the accounting system. The format of invoices and purchase receipts was in line with the client’s requirements. From the perspective of an ordinary user, integration with Przelewy24 also seemed like a good choice, as it is a very popular payment operator in Poland. This aspect is crucial when selecting a payment gateway integration for a project that involves enabling online purchases. The integrated security mechanisms of Przelewy24, such as data encryption and payment authorization, enhance the protection level for both sellers and consumers, minimizing the risk of fraud. As a result, the integration with Przelewy24 not only improves the shopping experience but also boosts sales conversion by adding a new digital sales channel.

Promotional Coupons
Promotional coupons are a built-in feature of the MemberPress system. Utilizing them helps increase conversion rates and user loyalty. The coupon generation feature allows you to offer time-limited discounts, percentage-based reductions, or fixed-amount discounts, which attract new subscribers and encourage the renewal of existing plans. Tailoring coupons to specific audience groups enables the creation of personalized marketing campaigns. For example, coupons can be used as a tool to reactivate inactive users or reward loyal customers.
Summation
For about six months, we worked on launching the website platform for a new theatre journal. The project is now entirely managed by the editorial team at Dom Literatury and the theatre community in Wrocław.
